Dr. Mitra’s philosophy is to focus on prevention and has high communications her patients.
“When I am entrusted with a patient’s care, I don’t want to miss anything, however small. If someone has a low potassium level, or the slightest abnormality, I research it.”
As a result, she said her patients participate more fully in their care. “My patients regularly keep me informed,” she said. “They know I care. Follow up is very important.”
Dr. Mitra completed her residency at the University of Florida in Gainesville and has practiced in Brevard County since 2002. She is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Internal Medicine, and has hospital privileges at Holmes Regional Medical Center and Wuesthoff in Melbourne.

Dr. Mitra became a physician at the young age of 21 and intended to become a specialist, but soon became fascinated with internal medicine.
“You see the patient as a whole, instead of focusing on just one organ system,” said Dr. Mitra.
Her leadership qualities have been recognized by her peers as she served as president of the Brevard Indo-American Medical and Dental Association (BIMDA), which brings together physicians, dentists and other medical scientists of Indian heritage residing in Brevard County and central Florida.
“My greatest joy has been getting to know my patients and helping to save lives,” she said.
